I see psychotherapy as a wholistic problem-solving process. We often encounter events in life that we did not learn how to handle and sometimes working through it can be very challenging. So with a foundation of strong bonding and understanding between me and my client, we lay out the cards we have and devise a plan. This includes learning more about ourselves and practicing skills that are tailored to my client’s strengths and the problem at hand.
I lean towards the practices of clinical psychology, integrating therapy modes and techniques which are supported by research and collective experience. The theoretical approaches I use are: person-centered therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, schema therapy and dialectical-behavioral therapy, including mindfulness and acceptance based strategies. I structure the therapy process to be empathetic, collaborative, creative, resonant and last but not least, humorous!
My professional experience includes those as a school counselor, therapist for expatriates, and researcher focusing on the psychological maladaptation of artists. I also have a personal experience traveling to over 20 countries and meeting people from diverse cultural backgrounds. This led me to deepen intercultural understanding as well as expand my psychological knowledge on young adults, non-Koreans in South Korea and artists.
