Rather than fixing, healing, or recovery, I prefer to embrace each person’s whole self, enhance their resilience, and sublimate what they are struggling with through multiple forms of art. In this way, visual metaphors are added to their lives. Focusing on the strengths that I find while working with them, I help to motivate them to self-reflect and self-validate and I witness some parts of their therapeutic journey toward an enhanced quality of life. My therapeutic alliance with the client has an effective and meaningful communication method based on empathy and integrity that transcends words. In terms of therapeutic approach, my interest began with Nataly Rogers’ Person-Centered Expressive Art Therapy and has been developing into an integrated and customized form with various evidence-based and solution-focused techniques, including psychodynamic perspectives, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy.
I’ve participated in several group/solo exhibitions in Calgary, New York City, and Korea. In my leisure time, I like to watch movies while sitting on my rocking chair with my rescue cat Star-pea (Byul-kong).
The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.
