The numbers are unclear but it is estimated that there are over 15 million orphans worldwide with no parents or family to care for them.

Those who answer the call to provide these children with loving homes and to surround them with a family are truly special.

Adaptable Human Solutions has partnered with US-based Adopt Abroad Inc. to provide the homestudy services you need to complete your adoption while overseas.  Adopt Abroad brings their expertise, experience, Hague accreditation and reputation as well as managing the final outcome in the United States. This assures that results are guaranteed to pass USCIS (INS) approval and will be acceptable to both your adoption agency and the home country of the adoptive children.  AHS provides licensed and qualified professionals, in Korea and able to visit your home, to conduct the interviews and write the report.

AHS can also provide psychological evaulations and post-adoption counseling if required.

*Please note that these services are only for Foreign Nationals and adoptions of non-Korean children.

how to prepare for your homestudy

The time it takes and the cost will vary greatly depending on your particular situation (ex. number of children already in the home, location of your home, etc.), as well as on the requirements of the agency and country your are dealing with (ex. number of interviews, home visits, etc.).

Have the following documents prepared to send to our office as soon as an interviewer is assigned so they can prepare ahead for your first meeting and streamline the process. Contact us for a more detailed list:

  • Birth Certificates of all family members
  • Passports of all family members
  • Medical Reports/Health Statements
  • Current and Recent Past Employment Verifications
  • Affidavit of Health Insurance
  • Financial Statements
  • Federal Tax Returns (Previous Three Years)
  • Police Clearances
  • State Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Letters Of Recommendation
  • Autobiograpy for each potential parent
  • List of any special requirements for your particular adoption agency/country (ex. individual child interviews, multiple home visits, etc.)
some other tips to help ease the homestudy process
  with Mom

  • Keep a running list any questions you may have
  •
  • Discuss the process of the homestudy with any children already in the home. Explain the point of the interviews as well as the process
  •
  • Remember that the homestudy is an assessment. Be as respectful, honest and forthright as possible right from the start, including when dealing with an agency's administration
  •
  • Be prepared. Learn all that you can about the legal, psycholgocial and emotional process of adopting a child.
  •
  •  If adopting from another country, learn all that you can about the culture of the adoptive child's country. Don't be afraid to demonstrate your knowledge when dealing with agencies
  •
  • Realize that the assessment is a part of the process when adopting, not the endpoint.  Issues raised during the homestudy should be seen as opportunities to learn and better prepare your family for the adoption. They are not necessarily a negative mark against you. Much of the homestudy is assessing that you have thought about potential difficulties and are doing your best to be prepared for them, not that you are already a perfect parent (do those exist?).
