returning Koreans

Welcome Home?

Do you ever feel like you went overseas to "get ahead", but now that you have returned to Korea you feel like you were left behind?

Our AHS consultants have noticed a common theme among Koreans who have gone overseas either to study, to live or were adopted by foreign families and have now decided to return to Korea: The transition home is surprisingly difficult, both for the individual and their family.

After spending years abroad, meeting people from a variety of cultures, and learning many different ways to see the world, it can be difficult to return to the expectations of one's home culture and family.

Returning to Korea after an overseas adoption, perhaps to a country and culture you have no memory of, is a challenge in itself. Even those whose parents emigrated to a foreign country to raise their children will find differences in the Korean culture they were taught and the one that is here.

We have seen enough cases of this that we decided it was worth offering assistance specifically to this group of people. AHS employs Korean counseling professionals who have personal experiences of reverse culture shock in "returning" to Korea. Combining their personal life experience, their professional training, and their work with other people just like you, they offer support and solutions in the midst of a difficult situation. image from 21stcenturydad.com
