Background & Career

As an Associate of Adaptable Human Solutions Young currently provides consulting and counseling services to the expatriate community.  Issues he commonly addresses include: cultural adjustment issues; substance abuse and chemical dependency; marital, family, and parenting-related issues; cross-cultural relationships; issues related to adolescence; third-culture experiences; crisis management; depression and anxiety.

 

Prior to working with AHS, Young worked in a variety of settings including:  a treatment center for adolescents and their families; a university counseling center; churches; and well-known centers such as Focus on the Family.

 

Young has presented on various topics in a diverse range of environments.  For instance: Cultural Adjustment and Empowerment Training for multinational corporations; Culture-Shock (Expatriation) and Reverse Culture Shock (Repatriation) for international student bodies; The Effectiveness of Adventure Family Therapy at a Texas AMFT Conference; Repressed Memories at Focus on the Family Institute; Training Lay-Counselors; The Basics of Counseling; The Asian-American Family for "Gender & Ethnicity" course; and Systems Theory for a "History of Theories of Psychology" course.

 

Young is Korean-American and after being born and raised in the United States has chosen to make Korea his home for the coming years. As one who has personal experience living in a "third-culture" Young brings a unique perspective in working with families living abroad and the challenges they face here in Korea.
