Medical and Crisis Services in English

Because we are not medical providers, and we do not have crisis intervention services, we rely on the community here in Seoul to meet those needs for our clients and the greater English speaking community.

Medical Emergencies

English Emergency Hotline: dial 1339

Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Run by Ministry of Health and Welfare, 1339 hotline counselors will refer callers to an appropriate medical center location, a consultation with a doctor, or if needed, they can assist in arranging ambulance transport.

Medical Non-Emergencies

Medical Referral Service

(MRS)-dial 010-4769-8212 or 010-8750-8212

We have found the Medical Referral Service (MRS) from the Seoul Global Center to be most helpful in referring to medical practitioners who are well evaluated by the expat community. They are able to refer you to doctors for any medical need, including psychiatric medication support. Their recommendations are based on formal visits to clinics and reviews from from past clients.

Who should I call if I am having suicidal thoughts?

Our recommendation is that you seek psychiatric consultation from a psychiatrist as soon as possible (not a general medical practitioner, and not a counselor/therapist).

If you have a psychiatrist already, it is best to attempt to reach this person first, and if they are not available, then get to a hospital with English speaking psychiatrists to get emergency support with decreasing your suicidal thoughts.

we have found that an excellent resource is the ASAN Medical Center located in the Jamsil area. During working hours, the International Clinic at ASAN can support you (in English) in seeing a psychiatrist in the hospital, and after hours or on the weekends when the International Clinic is closed, you can get connected to English psychiatry services by visiting the emergency room and indicating the need for emergency psychiatric intervention and assessment for suicidal concerns.
